Utah residents 60 and older are eligible to submit essays and poems to Salt Lake County’s 2017 Silver Pen contest.

The contest opens June 1 and closes Sept. 4. Entrants are asked to respond to the prompt: “If only I …” Essays must be between 350 and 500 words and poems can’t be more than 32 lines.

Winners will be recognized in a ceremony Oct. 17 at the Midvale Senior Center. Potential entrants have the option to attend any of three free writing workshops in June, July and August.
